Branding at the Next FINE Networking Meeting – Oct. 15 – Westport Playhouse

23 09 2009

Our next meeting is October 15, 9AM, at the Westport Country Playhouse.

Our speaker is Tracie Valentino, of TracieDesigns, www.traciedesigns.net.  She will talk about “Branding your Business”.  Here’s a bit about what she will say – “A powerful brand does wonders for business—even in this economy. What does your brand say about your business? In this discussion, learn how to brand yourself across a variety of mediums, including social networking.”

I think branding is somewhat of a mystery to people. We know the big companies do it, but maybe don’t understand what it can do for all os us that are out there on our own. I know I can benefit from knowing more about it.

With the advent of social media on the Web, it’s more important than ever to get the right message across. How are you branding your business? What does your brand say about you?

According to Tracie, a brand is not a logo, unless it is on a cow. 🙂 However, a logo is very much part of a brand. As is a business card, advertising, packaging, even something as insignificant as an email signature. A brand is the perception that all of these things, and more, give an audience about your company.

Tracie has been in graphic design for over 12 years. Her tasteful designs and strong work ethic have always been well-received by clients, resulting in a majority of her business coming from word-of-mouth. Her branding work has been recognized by the Connecticut Art Directors Club, as well as Graphic Design: USA magazine, a leading publication among the creative community. Tracie can be found at www.TracieDesigns.net

Hope to see you there.

Lively Discussion at the July 16th FINE Meeting

21 07 2009

We had a great turnout for our first summer meeting. The topic was “What do you think the second half will bring for you and your business” and the format was a roundtable. We circled the chairs in the Smilow Lounge at the Westport Country Playhouse. I led the discussion with help from Bette Lynn and John. Overall, there were some good points made, valuable info shared and a general sense of optimism.

We did an update on LinkedIn to see who had improved their profiles since the last meeting. We were fortunate to have  Jan Wallen, the author of “Mastering LinkedIn in 7 Days or Less” and our speaker at the previous meeting, as an attendee. She was able to offer us some additional guidance on what to do.  The LinkedIn discussion led to Twitter and could have continued for the entire meeting. Incredible how much interest there is in social networking topics.

Our next meeting is August 20th at the Playhouse and we will have a guest speaker,  Sheryl Kayne, who is a writer, adventurer, performer, educator, and public speaker. She is the author of Volunteer Vacations Across America and the critically acclaimed Immersion Travel USA: The Best and Most Meaningful Volunteering, Living, and Learning Excursions.

According to her press kit, Sheryl is the original immersion traveler and a specialist in volunteer vacations. If you are not sure what it is, immersion travel is about taking an active part in where you visit in order to learn about the culture, traditions, and characteristics of each particular place.

This should be a good one!  Hope to see you there.

Would you like to hear what others are doing to survive and maybe even thrive in 2009?

The program for the next FINE meeting is a roundtable discussion where each attendee will have the opportunity to talk about how the recession is affecting their business and the one most important thing they are doing to address it this year. This will be an opportunity to learn and share ideas.

The meeting takes place on Thursday, April 16th, at the Westport Public Library. It starts at 9AM with networking and introductions, followed by the roundtable discussion, then additional time to network and concludes by 11AM. The meeting is open to the public.
