“From Baseball to Higher Ed: Business Development in Bridgeport” – Jan. 20th Meeting

8 01 2011

Happy New Year! We are getting off to a great start in 2011 with a speaker who has an in-depth knowledge of business development and active involvement in investing and development in Bridgeport.

The next FINE Business Networking meeting is Thursday, 1/20, 9 to 11AM at the Westport Country Playhouse in the Smilow Room on the second floor.

Our speaker is Mary-Jane Foster, Co-founder, former Owner and CEO of the Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball Club. Ms. Foster will talk about how she and her partners formed an investment/development company that resulted in the ballpark, arena and economic development in Bridgeport. Currently the Vice President, University Relations at the University of Bridgeport, she will also talk about UB’s contribution to the economy in Bridgeport.

Ms. Foster will describe the impact a minor league baseball team can have on economic activity in a community, including the direct and indirect impacts (job creation, business and professional development, goodwill, a catalyst for additional economic development) .

She will also talk about the University of Bridgeport’s impact on the community and how both are important to creating a critical mass of activity that benefits the entire community and region.

Our coffee sponsor for the meeting is Bette Lynn Paez, MBA, CFP, ChFC, financial planner, (blpaez@sammonsrep.com) who recently joined Sammons Securities Company (www.sammonsrep.com). Should be a good one. We hope to see you there.
