Michele Albano of Michele’s Pies to speak at the FINE Business Networking Meeting

27 01 2009

Our next meeting is February 19th, 9AM to 11AM at the Westport Country Playhouse. Our featured speaker will be a local entrepreneur, Michele Albano, owner of Michele’s Pies in Norwalk. She has been in business for just one year and will talk about what she has done to market and promote her business.

An award wining pie maker, she most recently appeared on Good Morning America for the Best Slice of Pie in America Contest. Michele will share with us what worked and didn’t work for her as she launched her business. She will also talk about what she is doing differently in the face of the recession.

She started her business in 2006 in her ski condo in Vermont baking pies and selling them at as many as five farmer’s markets per week. In 2007 she traveled down to Orlando, Fl for the National Pie Championships and won in the commercial division for her Chocolate Pecan Bourbon pie.  At that point it was evident that the ski condo was way too small to handle the demand, and she opened in Norwalk in time for National Pie Day in January 2008.

Michele has participated in the National Pie Championships for two years, coming home with Five First Place Commercial category winners, was filmed by the Food Network at the National Pie Championships, has been featured on Channel 12 News and in the NY Times.

Michele’s Pies, located on the Norwalk/Wilton line, features an assortment of about twenty to thirty pies a day. Everything is made by hand using only the freshest ingredients.  Her web site is www.michelespies.com.

Meetings begin with each attendee giving a thirty second introduction, followed by the featured speaker and then the opportunity to network. Meetings are open to all and a small donation (five dollars) is requested to cover expenses.
