Great Ideas from Rosann Levy, The Roart Group

24 06 2010

I think it’s fair to say we all learned something from Rosann’s talk that we can bring back to our businesses and put into action. Rosann sent me a copy of her presentation which I converted from PPT to a PDF, however there were a few things that didn’t translate, but I think there’s enough that did to make it worthwhile to look at.

Be sure to follow the schedule of Rosann’s new networking group on MeetUp. I’m signing up for next Monday at Harbor Lights in Norwalk.

Next month’s topic for FINE is “Business Continuity Planning”, preparing for what to do when your business is interrupted in some way; storm, power outage, computer crash, disaster, etc. I’m sure there are some people in Bridgeport right now, wishing they had a plan. The storm, tornado or whatever it was ripped through this afternoon and a state of emergency was declared. And here in Westport, a few miles away, all is well.

Thanks to ActionCOACH for supplying the coffee and to Josh Slavitt for staying within the 3 minute allotted time (almost to the second) to talk about their business. :-)

Good Turnout for Feng Shui

17 12 2009

I was surprised that we got such a good turnout considering it’s the holiday season and everyone is so busy. I think it says a lot about the interest and the value people see in being part of FINE. I’m sure the subject and speaker played a big role as there were numerous questions as attendees tried to understand what Feng Shui is all about and how it can be of value to them.

Here are a few shots of Tracy Boyce presenting to the group and of the networking that took place.

The Passing of Jim Awad

17 10 2009

I found out yesterday that Jim Awad had passed away. Jim was one of the founding members of FINE.

I never did get to know Jim well. In recent years he came to meetings, would be there for the introductions, say hello and then leave shortly after. I would wonder why. I now see in reading his obituary that he was a member of the Westport Y’s Men. They meet at the same time as FINE.

It was always good to see him. I appreciate the fact that he would take the time to stop by and say hello.

Sam Wexler, another of the originals, had this to say about Jim.  “Jim did a lot of volunteer work and was always helping people find opportunities with other people. I remember he was always talking about Save The Children. Good guy!”

Jim’s obituary can be found at http://www.westportnow.com/index.php?/v2/comments/james_h_awad_79/#more

We will miss you Jim. Thanks for getting FINE going 16 years ago so we can all benefit from being part of it today.

7/16 Meeting Topic – “What do you think the second half is going to bring for you and your business?”

1 07 2009

I am happy to announce the topic of our next meeting, July 16th, 9AM, at the Westport Country Playhouse (not the Library). Everyone will have the opportunity to participate and share with others how they would answer the question of “What do you think the second half is going to bring for you and your business?”.

The format will be a roundtable similar to our April meeting about the economy, which was very well received. Bette Lynn Paez, John Mocker and/or I will moderate and help keep the discussion going.

This will be the first time in the recent past that FINE has met during the summer. We all felt it was important in these times to provide a forum for everyone to keep in touch.

As usual, there will be time to network before and after the meeting and we will go around the room so everyone has a chance to briefly introduce themselves by giving their “30 second” elevator pitch.

We will also spend a few minutes on a “LinkedIn Followup” to see how those who were at the last meeting, when Jan Wallen spoke, are doing on using LinkedIn.

Hope to see you there.
