Branding at the Next FINE Networking Meeting – Oct. 15 – Westport Playhouse

23 09 2009

Our next meeting is October 15, 9AM, at the Westport Country Playhouse.

Our speaker is Tracie Valentino, of TracieDesigns, www.traciedesigns.net.  She will talk about ”Branding your Business”.  Here’s a bit about what she will say - ”A powerful brand does wonders for business—even in this economy. What does your brand say about your business? In this discussion, learn how to brand yourself across a variety of mediums, including social networking.”

I think branding is somewhat of a mystery to people. We know the big companies do it, but maybe don’t understand what it can do for all os us that are out there on our own. I know I can benefit from knowing more about it.

With the advent of social media on the Web, it’s more important than ever to get the right message across. How are you branding your business? What does your brand say about you?

According to Tracie, a brand is not a logo, unless it is on a cow. :-) However, a logo is very much part of a brand. As is a business card, advertising, packaging, even something as insignificant as an email signature. A brand is the perception that all of these things, and more, give an audience about your company.

Tracie has been in graphic design for over 12 years. Her tasteful designs and strong work ethic have always been well-received by clients, resulting in a majority of her business coming from word-of-mouth. Her branding work has been recognized by the Connecticut Art Directors Club, as well as Graphic Design: USA magazine, a leading publication among the creative community. Tracie can be found at www.TracieDesigns.net

Hope to see you there.

Career Transition Support Group in Westport

8 09 2009

Cindy Cornell, a leadership & executive coach who attended the last meeting, told us about a Career Transition Support Group that meets at the Saugatuck Church in Westport. She followed up by emailing these details. Since we welcome people in transition to attend the FINE meetings, as a way of evaluating their options of going into business for themselves, we do post information about meetings or groups that we hear about that may be of value to them.

“In response to a great and growing need for support in finding new employment in this difficult economy, we are pleased to welcome both members of Saugatuck as well as our friends from the community to the Career Transition Support Group, which meets each Monday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 am in the Fellowship Room at Saugatuck Church (entrance at the rear right of the building,  up the stairs and to the right).

The group exists to:

  • Share suggested designs and structure for effective search strategies;
  • Provide opportunities for networking and share leads;
  • Facilitate sharing of job search best practices among group members; and
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement during both the job search and transition to new employment.

The group is co-facilitated Frank Basler, a management and organizational development consultant, and Cindy Cornell, a leadership & executive coach and adjunct member of the faculty at NYU.  For more information, please contact Frank at 345-5652 or baslerasoc@aol.com or Cindy at 470-1324 or cindy@hoshingroup.com.”
