Helping out at the Westport Public Library Book Sale

23 06 2009

Our friends at the Westport Library are having their 16th Annual Giant Summer Book Sale, 7/18 through 7/21.  It’s one of their biggest fund raisers of the year.

The sale is an opportunity for us to help support the library, FINE’s only “home” for many years and a wonderful place where we continue to meet.

If you would like to find out what they need help with and when, contact their Volunteer Coordinator.  I’ve worked there for the past five years or so and always enjoyed helping out. It’s a great crew.

If you are not able to volunteer, then come out and buy. There are some great bargains. Go to the Westport Library site  for the schedule.

A FINE Summer at the Westport Country Playhouse

22 06 2009

FINE will meet in the summer! We want everyone to have the opportunity to keep in touch. So mark your calendars for July 16th and August 20th at the Westport Country Playhouse.

In keeping with a summer feeling, the meetings will be informal and casual. We will have a topic for discussion and Bette Lynn and I will be there to help things along.

If we don’t see you during the summer, have a good one, and hope to see you then at the FINE 17th Anniversary meeting on September 17th.

June 18th FINE meeting a huge success

19 06 2009

Wow, what a turnout! Despite the heavy rain, 64 people attended, the most ever for FINE. The draw was Jan Wallen who did an outstanding job of telling us more about LinkedIn and giving us direction on how to start using it effectively.

We took a bunch of photos which I will post in the next few days.

New FINE news announced at the meeting included summer meetings in July and August at the Westport Conuntry Playhouse. They will be a liter version in that we will not have a formal program but will provide the opportunity to stay in touch over the summer.

The other announcement was our 17th Anniversary meeting which will take place in September, 9/17, at the Westport Library. We will have a Green theme as we did last year.  Stay tuned for more.

Jan Wallen, author of “Mastering LinkedIn in 7 Days or Less”, June 18th

4 06 2009

For those of you who were at the last meeting where I talked about social networking on the Web, consider that to have been the appetizer …. the June 18th meeting will be the main course.

Our speaker will be Jan Wallen, the author of “Mastering LinkedIn in 7 Days or Less” and a LinkedIn Master.

Here’s a description of her talk ….

“Master LinkedIn to Grow Your Business”

Did you join LinkedIn and haven’t used it a lot because you didn’t know where to start or what to do?  Or wonder what it can do for you in growing your business? Or how people are really using LinkedIn and what their success stories are?

Jan Wallen, a sales and LinkedIn Master and author of Mastering LinkedIn in 7 Days or Less, will show how you can use LinkedIn to grow your business.  And how you can build a network that you’ll use now and throughout your career.

She demonstrates in a non-technical way and from a real person’s perspective how LinkedIn works and the Top 5 things you can do to make it work for your business goals.  You’ll have an Action Plan of specific steps to take to start using LinkedIn for yourself and your organization when you leave.  You will learn why 40+ million people are using LinkedIn, real LinkedIn Success Stories, the differences between LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.

Jan has 20 years experience with Fortune 500 and Big 5 firms, advising, mentoring, consulting and training C-level executives, partners and business owners.  She has helped thousands of professionals find success in their business and their careers.  Whether you’re a CEO, executive, salesperson or entrepreneur, Jan’s practical, positive approach and strategies give you all the tools, inspiration and confidence to reach your business and professional goals using LinkedIn.  Her style is energetic and engaging, and she delivers her message with straightforward clarity.

She publishes an eColumn (www.LinkedInWorks.com) with articles, tips, insights and advice from the Experts on how to use LinkedIn to find clients … in record time with LinkedIn.

The meeting takes place at the Westport Library. Doors open at 9AM with the opportunity to network, followed by a welcome at 9:15  and each attendee giving their “30 second elevator pitch” as an introduction. This is followed by the main topic and then additional time to network. The meeting concludes by about 11AM.
